What you will Learn


Our programs addresses basic learning theory through lectures, reading assignments, and industry volunteer placement: but, most importantly, it teaches the practical application of dog assisted interventions, pet therapy and skill set training. 

Our trainers in the classroom are the same trainers that you will find working with you during practical “hands-on” lessons.

Training Calendar

Our "Paws for a cause", Entry Level: Therapy Dog Novice team training starts in February through to December of each year. 

Autumn - March, April and May, 

Winter - June, July and August, 

Spring - September, October and November,

We offer training times during the working week, day, evening and weekends. 

Industry Placement

Our training program offers participants, industry community placement which they can apply the techniques learned as well as opportunities to take their good - natured dogs to our partner community facilities, hospitals, rehabilitation centres disability and service the general public. 




The Professional Development Portal is the gateway to all the courses, resources, and instruments that facilitate AAI teaching and learning.

Process of improving and increasing capabilities of staff through access to education and training opportunities in the workplace, through outside organisation, or through watching others perform the job.

Professional development helps build and maintain morale of staff members, and is thought to attract higher quality staff to an organisation. Also called staff development.

Introduction to working with clients

You will learn terminology that puts clients first, rather than their illness, condition, or disability. This unit also provides specific information that can help you have successful visits with people who have certain characteristics.

Correctional Facility

The position of Prison Therapy Dog Teams consists of Therapeutic Dog Services Inc. Health Care Professional & Trained AAI dogs and Community Visiting Dog/Handler teams.Community visiting dogs/handlers must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with prisoners, balancing authority with a large amount of understanding and compassion, in order to effect rehabilitation. This is a professional development course.

All workshops are adjusted to fit topic and time available. All workshops are available in an in-depth full day workshop or a condensed 2 hour or 5 hour format. Please click on the workshop title for a full description.

Registration for each workshop will open six (6) weeks prior to the workshop date. Depending on the number of registrations received, online registrations will remain open until two days prior to the workshop or until all available spaces are filled.
