Accredited members are provided with an Animal Companions T-shirt and ID badge and are covered by insurance. We offer our members:
the chance to socialise with like-minded people through dog walks and social events
information sessions and training tips
discounted pet products
a Facebook group for members only, where you can share visiting experiences, post photos and exchange dog-related information.
We carry the following insurance:
Public Liability Insurance – covers personal injury or property damage caused by a volunteer team while providing unpaid work on behalf of Animal Companions.
Voluntary Workers Insurance – covers a volunteer for loss of earning, medical expenses, rehabilitation and other costs in the event of an accident which occurs while providing unpaid work on behalf of Animal Companions. This includes travel to and from such voluntary work.
How to Join
We look for volunteers who are willing to visit regularly with their dogs, ideally for at least a year or more.
To become a visiting volunteer applicants are required to:
pass an assessment with their dog, and
attend a half day seminar without their dog.
Note: We have a long waiting list of volunteers wanting to join in 2018 and are not currently taking any new applications.
If you would like to go visiting with your dog as an accredited team, the joining fee is $35 for the first year (includes T-shirt and ID badge) and $20 each year after.
Friend of Animal Companions
If you don’t have a dog, don’t wish to go visiting, or your dog is too young to be accredited, you can become a Friend of AC. The joining fee is $20 per year (does not include T-shirt or ID badge).
For insurance reasons, you must be at least 18 years old to join AC and your dog must be at least 18 months old to be accredited.
